Synelixis’s and SynField’s participation in the 6th Conference on Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis in Agriculture and the Environment was completed with great success. The conference took place from 19 to 21 May 2026, at the Conference Amphitheater of the Agricultural University of Athens.

Synelixis Solutions SA participated as a Platinum Sponsor, actively supporting the organization of this important conference. In the context of the conference and in our specially designed space, we presented the integrated solution SynField for smart agriculture and irrigation, highlighting the advantages and possibilities it offers to modern agricultural production and urban green management.

As part of the conference, Mr. Panagiotis Athanasoulis, Lead Software Engineer at Synelixis, gave a very interesting speech entitled: “From tradition to innovation: Smart Agriculture and Irrigation using SynField”.

During the presentation, modern services related to smart agriculture, remote monitoring, smart irrigation, as well as drilling and irrigation network management solutions were highlighted. The presentation also introduced the main categories of users and organizations addressed by the SynField ecosystem, including farmers, producer groups, agricultural cooperatives, agronomists, landscape architects, municipalities, and water resource management organizations. Special emphasis was placed on how SynField contributes to optimizing water usage, increasing crop productivity, reducing operational costs, and promoting the sustainable management of agricultural and environmental resources through modern IoT and telemetry technologies.

Finally, a brief reference was made to research activities utilizing satellite data and remote sensing technologies to support modern smart agriculture applications. Indicative vegetation indices for monitoring crop health and irrigation needs were presented, along with image analysis techniques for weed detection. In addition, activities related to the early prediction and management of crop diseases and pests, such as the olive fruit fly, were highlighted, contributing to the sustainable and efficient management of agricultural production.
