The Farmer and the Farm
Mr. Villias manages 10 hectares of tree crops in Laconia, Greece, primarily olive trees (Kalamon and Koroneiki varieties) and orange trees (Valencia variety). The crops are spread across multiple plots in different locations, each with distinct soil characteristics and irrigation requirements.
The Challenge: Managing Multiple Remote Plots
The daily monitoring of numerous remote plots required frequent travel and significant time in the field. Irrigation decisions were primarily based on experience and on-site inspections, without access to reliable real-time field data.
At the same time, maintaining high production quality required informed decisions based on actual crop and field conditions.
The Solution: Centralized Monitoring and Remote Irrigation Control
The SynField solution has been gradually deployed across the farm since 2016, creating an integrated system for remote monitoring and irrigation control.
Using telemetry devices, weather stations, soil moisture, pressure, and flow sensors, along with 22 solenoid valves, the farmer gained continuous visibility into soil moisture, local weather conditions, and irrigation network operation. Irrigation can also be controlled remotely through the SynField cloud platform and mobile applications for Android and iOS devices.
Today, the farm is managed through 14 SynField telemetry devices, together with a wide range of sensors and solenoid valves distributed across the different plots.
